three faan

About

A small hobby site for counting Hong Kong mahjong hands.

Who writes this

threefaan is written by Lok, a pen name. The site exists to make counting faan quick and to show the working, so everyone at the table can see why a hand is worth what it is.

Where the rules come from

The default table follows Hong Kong (new style) scoring as it is described in public references, mainly the English Wikipedia article on Hong Kong mahjong scoring and Chinese-language rule summaries. Where those sources disagree with each other, or with common table practice, the pattern page or the house rules page says so rather than picking a winner silently.

The calculator is checked by automated tests against every hand on the worked hands page. If you find a hand it gets wrong, please report it, ideally with the calculator link.

Privacy

No cookies, no analytics, no adverts, and nothing loaded from other sites. The calculator runs entirely in your browser; the hand lives in the part of the address after the #, which browsers don't send to the server. The web server keeps standard access logs (address, page, time) for two weeks. The feedback form's service keeps no copy of reports or logs of who sent them.
